India’s athletics season is about to start subsequent month with the National Open Race Walking Championship, which will even function an Olympic qualifying event, the nationwide federation introduced on Wednesday. Some worldwide athletes will compete in the 2-day championship, starting February 13. The competitors shall be held in males’s 50km, males’s and girls’s 20km, apart from the boys’s and girls’s U-20 10km occasions below strict COVID-19 protocols.
The males’s and girls’s 20km and males’s 50km are Olympic occasions. KT Irfan and Bhawana Jat have already certified for the Tokyo Olympics in males’s and girls’s 20km occasions respectively.
“The 8th Edition of National Open/4th International Race Walking Championships will be held at Ranchi (Jharkhand) on 13th & 14th February 2021. It will be a qualifying Event for Olympic Games,” the Athletics Federation of India stated.
“Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) prepared by AFI and other guidelines issued by the concerned State Government in connection with COVID–19 pandemic are strictly followed to ensure that the competition is conducted smoothly,” AFI Secretary Ravinder Chaudhry stated in the assertion.
The AFI stated boarding and lodging services of athletes/managers/coaches won’t be offered by the organisers due to COVID–19 pandemic and they’re going to have to make their very own preparations. The complete of the athletics calendar was worn out final 12 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
